Been working on this one for a while and I'm eager to share it. UFO 50 is a collection of 50 retro-style games, and I decided to write a blog post reviewing every single one. Enjoy!
Wow you didn't like Planet Zoldath? I loved that game. It reminded me a lot of similar games I've played in the 80s. Walking around a lot, puzzling, no focus on speed or combat, just trying to explore an alien ecosphere. I absolutely loved that game, especially the variety in the different (randomly generated) maps and strategies you need to use to solve them. Especially the inclusion of aliens that give hints and trade stuff is really cool I feel.
Sure the walking is slow and the two slot inventory is annoying, but I feel just like with Barbuta, that was kind of the point of it. The walking speed isn't that slow and the map is very small. And there are strategies you can use to prevent a lot of the backtracking. The game does have the flaw of it being randomly generated, it can give you terrible (or impossible) maps. But I went and got the cherry for this game, I loved it.
The fun part of this game is hearing such differing opinions, I had someone explain that Block Koala was their favorite. I personally didn't gel with Planet Zoldath, it's conceptually neat but I found it very tedious. Glad you enjoy it though!

Move, jump, slam, slide/run. What else is there?
I'm trying to cherry the game without reading a guide, and I can't find any secrets except a couple warps that don't end up leading me anywhere new. In fact, one simply goes backwards one level.
So if there are more actions than the ones I know, my ignorance is almost certainly holding me back.
You can backflip in mid-air which is useful to go a little higher or cancel the direction you're moving in. I don't remember the exact control for it, but I think it was double tapping after jumping.
Ah, I remember that one now. I never found any good use for it. I also remember it being kind of hard to pull off.
Would you recommend this to someone interested?
