From Georgia to Arizona, Nevada to Michigan, Republicans are mounting an all-out assault on the election process that journalist Ari Berman refers to as a “five-alarm fire for democracy.”
They are going to try to challenge local elections to prevent certification.
What you need to do, as a concerned voter, is to be aware of your local process, from voting, through counting, to certification.
If you feel you're being disenfranchised because your vote is either not being counted or not being certified, you should be prepared to take legal action to halt their shenanigans.
Talk to your local elections officials, find out the process, and see if they have plans in place to deal with these challenges. If you have time, offer to help.
Reach out to your representatives and ask them what they’re doing about it, then tell your family and friends and ask them to reach out to their representatives
Is there a lemmy version of r/votedem? There is a large linked spreadsheet with volunteer opportunities (phonebank, textbank, postcards, data entry, etc.) - especially needed in the (unfortunately) few critical states that can tip the balance one way or the other.
Republicans:"democrats are trying to get ILLIEGALS to vote. We have no proof but ahhhhhhhhh!"
Democrats:"man do you remember how close they were when they were caught on video ACTUALLY STORMING THE CAPITOL BUILDING! I bet that they may try something else, like those fake electors, or....read the article"
They level the playing field by pointing the finger away from themselves for what they themselves are doing. It's no longer just them doing something shitty, it's everyone, or no one. It becomes the childish "no you!" response that kills any argument that could be had if someone from the opposition criticizes them.
Republicans do a thing, baselessly accuse Democrats of doing that thing, so idiots conclude "oh, both sides are accusing each other of doing that thing, it's probably not happening."
