"Yes I want to be part of a proletarian mass movement but liking sports is normie boring low-IQ primate brain behavior" -statements dreamt up by the utterly deranged
There is nothing wrong with liking sports, sports are cool and fun and can be healthy social events. For someone who is a casual sporting event enjoyer, sportsball discourse is kinda rude and minimizing of their interest.
There is a lot wrong with defining your entire identity around sports and acting like a child throwing a temper tantrum when others don't also base their entire identity around sports. It is for those people that sportsball discourse is not only suggested, it is mandatory, because those people should be shamed into doing something useful with their lives. This is doubly true for people who base their entire identity around some specific subset of sports and who reject any sport outside of that subset. If smacking ball with stick across grass can be a sport then pretty much anything can be a sport.
Yea it's seems like an obvious statement but people dont generally have a problem with people liking sports, they have a problem with people who cannot healthily moderate their emotions.
Obviously there's some of the pretentious holier than though types but they're literally just on reddit from everything I've seen and reddit says downhill skiing is irresponsible and selfish because it's too dangerous and they do t understand how it could be enjoyable.
"I would like to watch grown men play catch while destroying their bodies with poison and scrambling their brains with concussions, and I would further like to make being violently passionate about one arbitrary brand name my entire identity. This is what is mainstream and the most socially acceptable sort of hobby: passively consuming this content at a rate of 30 seconds of gameplay per hour of ads, while drinking heavily."
Sports fandom is just twitch streamer stan culture except somehow even more toxic and harmful for everyone involved.
All existing socialist states highly prize(d) athletic achievement and watching sports with friends is a great way to bond socially, so as to put the social in socialism
Sports gambling is utterly fucking ruinous and has already shattered quite a few families and warped the sports themselves into betting outlets, even in their televised presentations. That shit should be abolished in any society that actually cares about its citizenry.
"Dae le sportsball bad amirite" Redditors are generally fine with gambling because their internet funny money is already a gamble.
"Yes I want to be part of a proletarian mass movement but liking sports is normie boring low-IQ primate brain behavior" -statements dreamt up by the utterly deranged
Yes the words you dreamt up and put in other people's mouths are deranged. The idea that you MUST like and be able to converse about sports in order to - not just be "normal" - but be part of proletarian struggle that's also utterly deranged
Sports have degenerated into gambling though, the masses are being addicted and bled dry by algorithms. Not to mention the already horrible alcoholism.
Sports aren't inherently bad, but under capitalism they certainly are.
that's a good point in the past few years the gambling has sapped a lot of fun out of it. can't even talk about sports online without some punter moaning about how their parlay didn't hit.
I'd rather not have a flag-humping military-worshiping head-injuries-are-basically-expected with consequently-lifelong-behavioral-problems-and-domestic-violence-from-participants side of sports, or at least one minimized as much as possible no matter how much such damaging spectacles excite the hogs conditioned to expect them.
Even so, I may as well tap the sign considering how this already predictably went:
it seems like a lot of comments here are implicitly talking about US football but there are a lot of other sports out there, people generally don't care whether you're into their sport as long as you're into some sport
people generally don't care whether you're into their sport as long as you're into some sport
I still find that attitude kind of toxic, but only roughly as toxic as le enlightened Redditors looking down their noses at sportsball while going bazinga for e-sports, which in some ways have become just an accelerated version of the most toxic fandom aspects of non-e-sports.
Sports are fine, and should even be encouraged, but for fuck's sake must they be concussionball with flag-humping characteristics?
people generally don't care whether you're into their sport as long as you're into some sport
That's not any better.
I don't hate sports, but i hate a lot of the cultural brainworms around sports. I'm not sure if they're as bad as they were when i was a kid, but they used to be awful. One of those is the expectation that if you were born male you MUST care about sports. You MUST be able to have a conversation about THE GAME. Obviously these things are deeply rooted in the enforcement of patriarchy. Patriarchy is the actual problem and the thing i hate, but you can't ignore how sports (at least in the US - your country may vary) plays a role in that. That doesn't nake sports inherently bad - they aren't. But the status of sports as "this is the good and normal thing to like - and you must like one of them to be normal" is fucked
that said, it does turn many people into goliras, no not the ball part, the competition part. there should be a study comparing monke behavior with e-'sports' vs traditional sports.
People who shit on sports fans have never tried seriously watching a sports game. Go to an NBA game in person and tell me with a straight face that it sucks and is boring
Can't relate; I do think its pretty boring. Its up there with like; clubbing or bar culture. I don't hate it, but I'm left wishing it was just like, a house party or something, somewhere less loud and crowded.
I don't shit on sportsfans or anything, I just can't understand why its enjoyable to watch. But like, there's lots of hobbies I don't 'get', so I'm not judging people for liking things I don't. And I do like playing sports, generally speaking.
I'll give you that, baseball is dull and slow 90% of the time. It's slightly better since they added pitch timers to the MLB but other sports are much more exciting
yeah it's one of the most annoying things I still see on here from time to time. thankfully it's mostly passé these days. passionately hating sports is way more tedious a personality trait than loving them, just keep it to yourself tbh.
