It's "sign up" not "sign in". It creates a separate account cloning all your Mastodon data (follows, profile pic, username...)
I just went through it. He's correct. It still makes you create a separate account, it just copies some information from your mastodon account.
how about this post from the dev planning to use same account for Mastoson and pixelfed?
