The secretary of state's office says it's not true that its lawyers and representatives assured Arkansans for Limited Government had filed the right paperwork. It also says the document a staffer emailed the group was an internal document and not a copy of what the group needed to turn in.

The secretary of state's response filed Monday agrees that a staff member got an e-mail asking for a copy of what to submit. It states that a staff member replied with a Word document.

However, the response states that what the staffer emailed was "an internal recordkeeping document" and not any sort of template. The response states that no such template exists.

The response also denies Arkansans for Limited Government's claim that attorneys and representatives with the secretary of state's office assured the group it had filed the necessary paperwork.
