Soldered-on RTC batteries (with type covered as a bonus)

This battery lasts the life of the router under the operating environmental conditions specified for the router, and is not field-replaceable.

But who determines its lifespan?

Knowing there is a battery set to fail and I can't simply replace it makes me physically uncomfortable. Enough so that I'd rather it not have RTC.

Thanks Cisco.

  • The tire pressure sensors on one of my motorcycles were like this. Replacement sensors are $280 each. Now the OEM sensors have replaceable CR2032 battery holders. The real A-hole design is in the software that cycles through an un-acknowlegable/un-cancelable warning that obscures display info for 5 seconds with three seconds in between under low/drained battery conditions.
