Anyone know what the joke is? the best I can come up with is just that Larson loves wiener dogs, so they’re wiener oxen.
Edit: or maybe something to do with the oxen being disturbed by the oxen skull…?
The oxen have just seen an oxen skull in the desert and thinking maybe this trip isn't going to end well was my take...
Larson addresses this specific comic in The Prehistory of the Far Side. He says, "Another example of when a cartoon's intent is lost on a lot of people. Very simply, I just meant that we all look a little longer and harder at things that fall upon our particular interests."
