Actual human beings referring to someone as “a domestic”
They changed to domestic worker because apparently "maid" was too dehumanizing.
It's not much of an improvement.

Quite the opposite in my opinion. Maid is at least a word that is exclusively used for humans. The first thing that comes to my mind when I hear the word domestic is this.
Well you're supposed to use domestic worker, but that's too much for these people obviously.
