Conservatism, in the original sense of the word, wasn't such a bad political ideology. It used to mean a desire reforming the current norms through gradual change and evolutionary measures.

Unfortunately, it has been perverted, as the social norms modern "conservatives" seem to want to promote include transphobia, homophobia and heteronormativity.
