Makes me realize that we, in this reality, are the monsters, ghouls and ghosts that haunt and frighten those in the afterlife.

I'd probably say too much if I put it plain, but there's a pretty good 2001 Nicole Kidman movie about this.

When there is a question who are the monsters - it's humans, always.
If we discover ghosts all research would go towards how to enslave them.
