it makes me think of how the confederate leadership were pardoned by Andrew Johnson after half a million conscripts died. You can shed endless scalding tears for the scratch on the god emperor's ear, enough to fill a river, and it still won't buy you one bit of sympathy from the hogs. The words are hollow for a bunch of reasons, but I think my favorite is how every time anything spicy happens, we have to abhor this vitriolic tragedy with every ounce of our being. This is not who we are. This is the soul of America at stake blah blah blah...
