Lemmy.world grew from around 51000 total users the moment 3rd party reddit apps started to shut down on June 30 to 71000 total users at the time of this post (July 1). That's a 40% growth in about 12 hours!

And you can add me to the statistics of today. I'm a Boost user for Reddit. It feels so weird not having it on my phone anymore. Like I've gone to work without any pants on. I've been active on reddit for 13 years and it's been genuinely difficult leaving it behind. I'm hoping this can be my new home. I just wanna be a chill dude who likes to talk about Star Trek (keep the 'Thats not real Trek' away from me, thanks), Star Wars (same sentiment), and share information. A place where I can vent after life inevitably kicks me in the teeth again.
Still just low-key stunned that my name was up for grabs.

Oh I am very glad to know. I've been keeping track of the Boost subreddit. When I saw his announcement he was making Lemmy I got excited. I've got a few different mental health issues so fuck knows what one is making this happen but losing Boost has been distressing. Knowing it's just on a vacation gives me some hope. I don't have anything stable or happy in my life. Losing reddit took away pretty much the only bit of joy I had. Now all I have to do is keep telling myself it's right around the corner...
I'm sorry to hear that losing Boost has been hard! I agree that it's more like a vacation, or possibly even an upgrade. Think bout the fact that reddit wasn't adding features for the benefit of users, it was focused on padding its bottom-line. This meant that features on clients like Boost were often limited. For example, Boost didn't have reddit chat or gifs in comments, probably because the API didn't allow for it.
On the other hand, lemmy and fediverse users are driven entirely by the goal of making amazing things for the community. Clients and apps are first-class citizens, so features will roll out to all of them pretty steadily. I expect Boost for lemmy will be way better than Boost for reddit ever was.
