Am I the only one completely underwhelmed?
No, I'm the same. But I've been underwhelmed by most Switch 2 news. 🙁
Asides from the prices and the overuse of Game Key cards by 3rd party publishers there's nothing really negative on what they've announced.... but I'm also having a hard time naming something about it that really gets me hyped.
I'm kind of scratching my head. For years, people clamored for more Switch, just better/faster/etc. That's exactly what's being offered. I don't consider anything a must-buy at launch. Switch 1 didn't launch with much, either. But over the past 8 years it's been my primary gaming machine. I don't see staying the course as a bad thing.
I agree with you. Before Switch 2 announced (or leaked), everyone was talking about how Nintendo shouldn't add some gimmick just for the sake of adding gimmick and just give us a better and faster Switch. Nintendo gave people exactly what they asked for, and everyone is complaining about it 😀
There's a famous quote by Steve Jobs:
Some people say give the customers what they want, but that’s not my approach. Our job is to figure out what they’re going to want before they do. I think Henry Ford once said, “If I’d ask customers what they wanted, they would’ve told me a faster horse.” People don’t know what they want until you show it to them. That’s why I never rely on market research. Our task is to read things that are not yet on the page.
I guess that's where Nintendo failed us. They gave us exactly what we wanted. Well, that and a mouse.
If every other recent console is any guide, we’re not going to be able to actually buy it for like 7 months unless you sleep in a parking lot or spend every second refreshing some random “is it in stock” web site. Honestly, it doesn’t matter that much to me what the launch stuff is. The “real” launch will be later.
For sure not truly better without an OLED screen and without Hall effect sticks.
Also, the price is laughable.
I'm going to get one, though not right at launch. I skipped the Switch, and the backward compatibility sold me on the 2 because it means I can still play original Switch games, plus have access to anything interesting that comes out in the future. I also like that it's a little bit bigger.
If I already owned a Switch I would probably skip the 2, at least until there's a reasonable used market for them.
The mouse mode is probably the most interesting, but it looks like ergonomic hell for anything more than a novelty.
The joycons are an ergonomic disaster for most people regardless. I can't play handheld without a grip. I imagine the mouse aspect will be similar, and I'm expecting shells/grips or 3rd party more traditional mice to fill in for shooters etc.
I would have been happy with a slight graphics improvement and the hardware and if it was the same price. The rest of everything, meh.
