I've always been suspicious of a terrorists passport being found by the twin towers just after 9/11.

actually, i think it doesn't really matter whether the moon landings were real. what matters is that it's technologically plausible that they were real, i.e. that humanity had the technology at the time.
having that technology, that in itself is the breakthrough, not the one-time mission.
I think you're pretty much right on. Like we definitely had the technology, and I think that the moon landing probably did happen, but that maybe the footage was faked so that the U.S. would have something better to jam in the Russian's face at the tume
This wouldn't surprise me either, they were under such pressure.
The authenticity of the moon landings is not up for debate.
The Truth About The Moon Landings [Tim Dodd]
Drives me nuts when people who can't tell you the first thing about rocketry, astronomy or orbital mechanics try to tell me the landings were faked.
That's sort of to be expected though. I'd be more surprised if an aerospace or or astronomy expert stated that the landings were faked.
I'm not saying they are.
Oh I just meant in general
As someone who can tell you a bit about that stuff, I have other reasons, though you say that like anyone would wish to convert you regarding that (at least as much as others wish to take that approach with us). This is just me answering the question "what conspiracy theory do you kinda believe".
Anyone who thinks government's aren't capable of these kinds of things just needs to look at the last few years in US politics
There is more to it than that when I look at this. 1969 was a year more about national pomp than capabilities and when suspicion was no object to anyone. In hindsight, the cold war plays out like a really bad argument between two entities, and the circumstances take so many twists and turns, with money and politics being all over the place because that was the big hurdle, even more than anyone's abilities. For something so important, NASA didn't even bother to preserve the original tapes.
I internally rationalize the argument the same way I internalize how to go about any conflict I have been involved in, which leads me to, at best, take an agnostic approach on whether it happened. I also think to myself "wait, so French Polynesia was being blasted into smithereens, civil rights was still in its infancy, and there were several crises going on in the world at that moment, yet it's the moon landings funded by the citizens that got people going", so all in all, I just consider the incentive low.
It's not just about how well the footage holds up (as most sources focus on), it's about the circumstances surrounding it, being towards the end of the deception-focused cold war. If you subjected it to a proper due process, it would be ambiguous given all the objections.
